The upcoming third season of True Detective will have eight episodes and the new trailer shows new star, Mahershala Ali, in action!

You don’t have much longer to wait – season 3 returns to HBO in January 2019 – four years after season 2 – and also stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams.

In the above clip, Ali’s character investigates the disappearance of two children in the Ozarks. As a parent, this one really hits home.

The new season premieres in North America on HBO on January 13, 2019.
