Josh Brolin cast as Cable in Deadpool 2

April 19, 2017

Already set to appear for Marvel as the Mad Titan, Josh Brolin is expanding his comic book resume – the actor’s been cast as Cable in the upcoming sequel to Deadpool.

Brolin shared a few pre-production pictures to his Instagram page, showing him in purple-goop-makeup glory, looking a bit more like Thanos than Cable.

As if having an actor’s face doused in purple goo wasn’t a big enough clue, the next photo shows a detailed mask forming over the goop. It’s looking pretty obvious that Brolin’s going to get dressed up in a fair amount of prosthetic make-up for the role. He even has a note pad for communicating while he’s gooped up.

Brolin signed a four-year deal with Fox Pictures to portray Cable. The time-travelling mutant son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey will definitely appear in Deadpool 2, but the remaining three films have not been announced. It’s been teased by X-Men series producer and writer Simon Kinberg that both Deadpool and Cable will have appearances in an upcoming X-Force movie.

It goes without saying that Brolin’s going to be a very busy man – he’s also been cast as Thanos in the upcoming Avengers : Infinity War movies. On the surface it may seem weird that an actor’s going to be in such high profile roles with competing studios (although Marvel retains the comic book rights, the X-Men’s film rights are currently with Fox, not Marvel or their parent company Disney.)

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, isn’t the least bit concerned ; “Indiana Jones and Han Solo are the same person … it hasn’t been a problem. And I think Thanos and Cable are two very different characters,” Feige told The Hollywood Reporter.
