Ed Sheeran sued Over Marvin Gaye Song
Marvin Gaye’s estate recently win a lawsuit against Robin Thicke’s 2013 hit “Blurred Lines” – where it was ruled Thicke borrowed a lil’ too much from “Got To Give It Up”. Now, Ed Sheeran has apparently been sued for $100 million for allegedly copying Marvin’s song “Let’s Get It On” in Sheeran’s hit “Thinking Out Loud”. Hear both songs below.
Structured Asset Sales owns one third of the copyright for ‘Let’s Get It On’ and claims Sheeran lifted the melody, harmony, and rhythmic components—from Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’ for his hit “Thinkin’ Out Loud”.
‘Let’s Get It On’ went to #1 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart on September 8, 1973.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ also went to #1 and spent over a year on the UK Top40.
