Billie Joe Armstrong to fans: “Put Down Your Phone”

November 16, 2016

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong would prefer you leave your phone at home next time you see them live.

Speaking at a Q&A session in London, Armstrong was critical of fans who can’t unglue from their phones, saying “social media can be a very miserable place to be. At our shows I see a lot of people holding up cell phones. You can look at your computer or your phone anywhere.”

Armstrong also re-iterated that cell phones and social media aren’t all bad – it’s just when you go to a concert, maybe you should be looking to have a more human experience.

“You can take your picture but let’s have eye contact, let’s have a human experience right now you can’t capture on a cell phone. Why would you want to listen to your favourite song going like this (imitates fan with cell phone in air) when you can just hear it right in front of you? I feel like a little more human contact is good.”
