WORLD’S OLDEST PERSON DIES AT 117

Misao Okawa of Japan, who was the world’s oldest person, died at an Osaka nursing home on Wednesday (April 1st), one month after her 117th birthday.

The woman who was the mother of three, grandmother of four and great-grandmother of six, was born on March 5, 1898, and had been one of only a handful of people still alive who were born in the 19th century.

The world’s oldest person is now believed to be American Gertrude Weaver, who is 116 years old, while the oldest man is Japan’s Sakari Momoi, who’s 112.
