U2’s Bono on Europe taking in refugees: ‘This week, something incredible happened’
U2 singer Bono has praised Europe’s decision to accept Syrian refugees.
Bono said, “We might truly be at a turning point for what Europe wants to be in the 21st century… This week, something incredible happened, and Europe isn’t the same as it was seven days ago.”
He also said pictures of German children offering their toys to Syrian refugees “will remain in the history of Europe” and labelled German Chancellor Angela Merkel as “a moral symbol for Europe”.
Bono brought up the refugee crisis during his band’s show in Turin last week (September 5). Bono said: “We don’t know what the answer to the refugee crisis in Europe and Africa is, but we know that if we don’t figure it out, then Europe, which is a beautiful idea, will be no more. So we have to figure it out, whatever it is.”
