STUDY: MARIJUANA IS SAFER THAN ALCOHOL, OTHER DRUGS

Concerned about you marijuana habit? The results of a new study may help you rest a bit easier. The data shows that among things people take to get high or drunk, weed is the least fatal.

Researchers evaluated the fatality risk of these substances by comparing lethal doses to the amount people normally consume.

They determined the deadliest substance was booze, followed by heroin, cocaine, tobacco, ecstasy, and meth.

Overall, weed is 114 times less likely to kill you than alcohol is. In fact, marijuana is the only drug in the study “that posed low mortality risk to its users.”

However, this doesn’t mean weed is safe– it’s still addictive, as well as a possible threat to cognitive function.

Still, researchers say that the drug’s lack of killing power suggests “a strict legal regulatory approach rather than the current prohibition approach.”
