STUDY: 6% OF PEOPLE ON EARTH MAY BE ADDICTED TO THE INTERNET
How much time do you spend online each day? A new study reveals that internet addiction is a prevalent problem thought to affect about 6 percent of the world population.
That equates to more than one in 20 people.
Researchers analyzed data from nearly 90 thousand people in 31 countries to come up with their number. Different areas of the world showed different rates of addiction.
For example 8 percent of those in the U.S. are thought to be addicted to the internet compared with 10.9 percent of those in the Middle East and just 2.6 percent of those in Northern and Western Europe.
Countries with the most people addicted tended to have “perception of less life satisfaction in general, greater overall population, greater traffic commute time consumption, and lower national income.”
