‘Straight Outta Compton’ Tops Box Office Again With $26.8 Million
“Straight Outta Compton” was #1 at the box office again this weekend, bringing in $26.8 million from 3,025 locations and pushing the overall take to $111.5 million.
Universal and Legendary spent $29 million making the film about the early days of N.W.A. “Straight Outta Compton” has been slammed for glossing over its members treatment of women and the blowback forced Dr. Dre to apologize for his actions.
Other movies out this weekend, “Sinister 2” brought in $10.6 million from 2,766 locations for a third place finish. The movie cost $10 million to make, so at this point it’s a break even for the studio.
Fox’s “Hitman: Agent 47,” a second attempt to transform a popular video game series garnered a meager $8.2 million across 3,261 locations. It had been expected to generate $11 million in receipts. It cost $35 million to make.
