‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ producer reveals fate of key villain
A producer of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has revealed the fate of one of the film’s main villain.
Kathleen Kennedy, a producer on the movie and president of Lucasfilm, has confirmed that new villain Captain Phasma, played by Game of Thrones actor Gwendoline Christie, will survive the film and return for Episode VIII, due out in May 2017.
Kennedy dismissed the possibility that Phasma might be a one-and-done evil character like ‘The Phantom Menace”s Darth Maul, stressing the character’s major role in the series to the LA Times – “She’s an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word.”
Christie will be glad to hear that the first female villain in the franchise isn’t meeting her maker just yet, which is more than can be said for originals favourite Boba Fett, a character Captain Phasma has often been likened to by fans.
Meanwhile, George Lucas has seen the upcoming ‘The Force Awakens’, and said that he “really likes it”.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ opens in theatres in North America on December 18.
