‘Star Trek Beyond’ release date pushed back two weeks

Star Trek Beyond‘s release date has been pushed back a couple weeks.

The sequel to 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness had been scheduled to be released July 8, 2016 – but will now open on July 22, 2016.

Director Justin Lin started shooting Star Trek Beyond in Vancouver in June. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin are all reprising their roles from the previous two Star Trek films, joined by Idris Elba, who will be playing the film’s main villain, and Kingsman actress Sofia Boutella in an unknown role.

Fast And Furious veteran Lin takes over the director’s chair from JJ Abrams, who directed 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness, but is now focusing on the new Star Wars movie. However, Abrams remains on board serve as one of the film’s producers.
