STAIND GUITARIST: GROUP HAS NO PLANS TO RECORD
At the moment, Staind has no plans to get back together and begin working on its eighth studio album, with guitarist Mike Mushok recently telling a New Jersey radio station, “There is no real new material.”
Aside from a few festival shows earlier this year, Staind has not been active either live or on the recording front since finishing the touring cycle behind its 2011 self-titled seventh album.
Mushok revealed, “I was actually trying to do this thing where I was writing with different singers, and Aaron (Lewis, Staind frontman) was one of those singers that I was talking to.” Apparently that project never got off the ground.
Aaron Lewis has been pursuing a career as a solo artist in the country music field, releasing an EP called Town Line in 2011 and a full-length album titled The Road in 2012.
Also left hanging was the fate of Newsted, a band led by former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted in which Mushok played for a while in 2013.
Jason Newsted “shut down” the project nearly a year ago, citing “private and personal circumstances,” after more than a year of touring and promotion for the Metal EP and full-length Heavy Metal Music album.
- Mushok, who played on the latter, said that Newsted was “kind of just taking a little break now,” adding, “I know (Jason)’s still writing music and we still talk, but there’s not really any plans as far as that goes today.”
