SMASHING PUMPKINS’ BILLY CORGAN WANTS TO BE CALLED ‘WILLIAM’ NOW
For more than a quarter-century, Billy Corgan has been known as Billy.
However, the Smashing Pumpkins founder and frontman told an audience last week in Lima, Peru — who had just finished singing “Happy Birthday” to him — that “my name is not Billy. My name is William.” The crowd began chanting “William!” immediately, to which Corgan replied, “My mother thanks you in Heaven.”
- Corgan’s full name is William Patrick Corgan Jr. He just celebrated his 48th birthday.
- Smashing Pumpkins has been touring behind Monuments To An Elegy, the band’s ninth studio effort and the follow-up to 2012’s Oceania.
- The current touring lineup of the Pumpkins includes Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk and Killers bassist Mark Stoermer in addition to him and Schroeder.
