ROYAL BLOOD WINS ‘BEST BRITISH GROUP’ AT BRIT AWARDS
Royal Blood was named Best British Group at the 2015 BRIT Awards on Wednesday night (February 25th), beating out much bigger contenders like Coldplay, One Direction and Alt-J for the prize.
The win capped an extraordinary year for the duo, whose debut album went to Number One on the British chart and yielded two Top Five rock hits in the U.S. with “Figure It Out” and “Out Of The Black.”
According to Gigwise, the duo were “clearly humbled and stunned” when accepting their award from Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page during the ceremony at the O2 Arena in London.
Frontman Mike Kerr said, “I suppose we’re expected to give a speech now so we’ll give it a go. This is a huge surprise for us, it’s probably more of a surprise for everyone here, as you may not even know who we are.”
He continued, “We started this band two years ago just to have a bit of a laugh and make some music together as friends, and this is huge, so thank you.”
The band also performed “Figure It Out” at the event.
Additional winners at the awards show — the British equivalent to the Grammy Awards — included Foo Fighters, who won Best International Act, plus Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Pharrell Williams and others.
