Ridley Scott: Follow-up to Prometheus will be called ‘Alien: Covenant’

November 15, 2015

Prometheus 2, the sequel to the 2012 sci-fi film directed by Ridley Scott, has been renamed Alien: Covenant.

Until recently, director Ridley Scott had been referring to it as Alien: Paradise Lost, but in an American Film Institute interview Scott dropped the new name.

Shooting for the film begins in February 2016. The Alien titling goes against Scott’s comments in 2012 mitigating the connection between the two franchises. “For all intents and purposes [Prometheus] is very loosely a prequel,” he previously said.

The Prometheus sequel has put on hold District 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp’s film, also in development by Fox, which is unnamed ‘Aliens’ sequel that ignores the story of the third and fourth Alien films but focuses on original protagonist Ripley. Unlike Scott’s Prometheus films, Scott says, the film will be set “after. After after,” in relation to the original Alien timeline.
