OVECHKIN GETS 50 GOALS FOR SIXTH SEASON

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin became the sixth player in NHL history to score at least 50 goals in six seasons last night (March 31st), getting his league-leading 50th in the first period against the Carolina Hurricanes, a game Washington went on to win 4-2.

Other than Ovechkin, who’s a three-time NHL MVP, the other players to have done it are Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy, who each had nine seasons with at least 50 goals, and Mario Lemieux, Marcel Dionne and Guy Lafleur, who each had six 50-goal seasons.
