Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has revealed that the second edition of his Fear FestEvil horror and music convention will take place on April 10th, 11th and 12th in San Jose, California. The first night will feature a Murder Mystery Dinner/VIP Party at the legendary Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, which will include a tour and murder mystery to solve, while the events of the 11th and 12th will take place at the RockBar Theater and include performances from Meshuggah, Agnostic Front, Orchid and others.

The RockBar will also host a new exhibition of horror memorabilia from Hammett’s vast personal collection.

Hammett said what he envisioned for his convention when he launched it last year: “I’ve gone to San Diego Comic-Con, and I was just struck by how all it really is is a bunch of stuff to look at and a bunch of stuff to buy. What I wanted to do with my convention is I wanted it to be an experience, you know. I wanted it to be interactive, I wanted it to have ambiance and atmosphere, and I wanted it to be unique and thrilling, and that’s what we’re trying to do here.”

The inaugural event last year featured vendors, “Kirk’s Crypt” private tours, panels, signings, special guest appearances and more.

  • There were also performances from Exodus, Death Angel, Carcass and Orchid, as well as appearances by Slash, The Walking Dead producer/makeup artist Greg Nicotero and other horror celebrities.
  • Meanwhile, bassist Robert Trujillo explained in a recent podcast why it’s taken so long for Metallica to write and record its 10th studio album, While they’re now working on “frameworks” for new songs, Trujillo said that projects like 2013’s Through The Never movie “took a couple of years out of our lives . . . Those were a couple of years that we really needed to be writing, you know. I mean, a lot of the fans have been waiting for a new album.”
