MEMBERS OF TOOL AND MASTODON FORM SUPER GROUP
Tool drummer Danny Carey is teaming with Mastodon singer-guitarist Brent Hinds and members of the bands Off! and Burning Brides in a new “supergroup” called Legend of the Seagullmen.
According to Rolling Stone, the hard rock act has been recording with Jonah Hex film director Jimmy Hayward serving as producer. Two songs, “Battle of the Deep-Sea Diver” and “Ships Wreck,” are streaming and available for free download on the band’s website.
Carey said that he always thought doing projects outside of Tool had its benefits: “We just kind of look at it as going off on sabbatical, I think, pretty much, and then when we come back from doing our projects like this, it gives us more to offer into the Tool pot. It all feeds off of each other.”
The retro-sounding Seagullmen are actually the brainchild of three brothers, Frank, Chris and David Dreyer, who have put on theatrical concerts and made movies about the band’s long-running legend in recent years.
Carey apparently has time on his hands to work on the project while Tool continues to slowly put together its long-awaited new studio album.
