Mark Hamill: faces a financial penalty if he reveals ‘Star Wars’ spoiler

November 21, 2015

Mark Hamill told PC Gamer that he will lose money if he gives away too much about the new Star Wars movie.

Hamill returns as Luke Skywalker in next month’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but his iconic character hasn’t appeared in any of the teaser clips or promotional pictures. Star Wars fans have theorized that he is “living in self-imposed exile” or potentially “lost on a desert planet”.

Discussing the ongoing threat of spoilers, Hamill said, “I have something coming out where there’s an amount of money where if it leaks, because of me, I don’t get that payment. If I keep it a secret until the day it comes out, I get that payment. But I’m good about keeping secrets.”

Recalling that he managed to keep a huge secret while shooting the original Star Wars trilogy, Hamill added: “I’m proud of the fact that I knew a year and a half before anybody else that he [Darth Vader] was actually ‘Dad Vader’. I didn’t even tell Harrison Ford, or my wife…”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in less than a month – UK theatres on Thursday, December 17 followed by North American theatres on Friday, December 18.
