MARILYN MANSON WAS WARNED NOT TO DATE ROSE MCGOWAN
Marilyn Manson was warned by Smashing Pumpkins front man, Billy Corgan, not to date Rose McGowan. The rocker appears in the new issue ofEsquire discussing how the advice led some to believe he and Billy had a falling out.
Manson tells the magazine, “…a lot of people think there was some kind of falling out. It was mostly that he wrote a strongly worded letter about how Rose McGowan would ruin my life and ruin my career if I stayed with her, which was good advice, and he wrote it as a letter, which is very polite. There is sort of a guy code that I abide by where he totally offered his advice, and he was genuinely just looking out for my best interests.”
Marilyn and Rose started dating in 1997. They got engaged in 1999 but broke up in 2001. Rose said at the time of their breakup, “There is great love, but our lifestyle difference is, unfortunately, even greater. I couldn’t take his lifestyle. The drugs — more than you could imagine. I realized it wasn’t a lifestyle I wanted to be married to. I have never been a rock chick.”
