Luke Bryan Outsells Dr. Dre’s ‘Compton’ on U.S. Album Chart

August 19, 2015

Country outgunned Hip Hop in the U.S. album sales race last week.

Country star Luke Bryan’s album, “Kill the Lights,” beat out Dr. Dre’s “Compton,” the companion album to “Straight Outta Compton” to take top spot.

Despite “Straight Outta Compton’s” being #1 at the box office in its opening weekend, Dre’s album did not hit No. 1. “Compton” (Dre’s first album in 16 years) sold just under 295,000 copies.

Dre couldn’t keep up to Bryan’s “Lights,” which sold 345,000 units in its opening week. The country set had the third biggest sales debut for a 2015 album, behind Drake’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” (535,000 units in February) and Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly” (363,000 units in March).
