Linkin Park has an early Christmas gift for their fans: The band’s latest album, The Hunting Party, is being made available in the U.S. (NOT AVAILABLE IN CANADA?) as a free download through Google Play until December 23rd. According to Antimusic, the online service is also selling other Linkin Park albums for just $1.99 each during the promotion.

Although the free download is only available in the States, the international Google Play outlets are offering deep discounts on Linkin Park’s catalog in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., Germany, Italy, Australia, and France.

A promotion like this may seem risky at a time when album sales continue to decline, but guitarist Brad Delson said that Linkin Park has always followed its own creative impulses no matter what: “We have to do artistically and creatively what we’re driven to do, irrespective of, like, the advice everyone’s giving us or the commercial ramifications of it, and ultimately I think if you chase what you love and you chase great art, then everything else follows. I think where people get into trouble is when they’re chasing what they think people want to hear and it becomes flat and derivative and disingenuous, and that’s the last thing we wanted to do.”

The Hunting Party, Linkin Park’s sixth studio album, came out last June and followed up 2012’s Living Things.

The disc debuted on the Billboard album chart at Number Three, making it the first Linkin Park release to miss a Number One debut since the band’s first album, Hybrid Theory, which peaked at Number Two in 2002.

  • Linkin Park will launch a North American tour on January 15th in Orlando, Florida, featuring support from Rise Against and Of Mice And Men.
