The Curiosity Rover has discovered what is being described as the first real hint of life on Mars. It has found methane.

The sun rises over Gale Crater on Mars where the Curiosity rover detected the methane fluctuations

Here on Earth, most methane is expelled in burps (and other gassy releases) by humans and other animals.

So, where do the “burps” on Mars come from? According to The Telegraph, scientists are considering whether they might be traces of life, such as bacteria.
