JJ Abrams: Luke Skywalker’s absence from new ‘Star Wars’ trailer is ‘no accident’
JJ Abrams has confirmed that Luke Skywalker’s absence from recent Star Wars promos is intentional.
Harrison Ford’s Han Solo and Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia are both featured in the latest trailer and poster for Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The third member of the iconic original trio, Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, does not appear in either.
Asked about Luke Skywalker’s absence, Abrams told the Associated Press: “These are good questions to be asking. I can’t wait for you to find out the answer,” before adding teasingly: “It’s no accident…”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release in the UK on December 17 and in the US a day later. It takes place 30 years after the events of Return Of The Jedi though specific plot details are being kept tightly under the wraps. The film’s script was penned by Abrams, Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt and Star Wars franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan.
