On August 9, Steve O climbed to the top of a 100-foot crane overlooking LA’s Sunset Boulevard with an inflatable whale bearing the words “SeaWorld Sucks”. He then proceeded to set off fireworks from the top of the crane.

The 41-year-old stuntman was arrested on charges of trespassing, creating a false emergency, using unregistered fireworks, storing fireworks without a permit and possession of fireworks with a permit. After pleading no contest to the charges, he has been sentenced to 30 days in Los Angeles county jail.

“What can I say, I’m a jackass,” Steve O said on Instagram. “My whole crane-climbing, fireworks debacle really turned out to be pretty meaningful in the end, too. I mean, if your goal is to make a statement about captivity, you may as well get yourself locked up!”
