In This Moment singer Maria Brink was asked in a new interview with Italy’s Linea Rock how she felt about being consistently named one of the “hottest chicks in hard rock” by magazines and fans. Brink replied, “It’s not just about being a sex symbol, or being sexy to appease everyone. I’m not about that . . . just being sexy will get you nowhere. You could be the sexiest woman in the world, and if you can’t sing, if you’re not an artist and you can’t create a show, you can’t have power in front of a crowd, you’re gonna crash and burn. So if you just try to rely on that, you’re not gonna get very far.”

Brink explains why she thinks she and In This Moment get accused of just selling sex: “People like to put out a lot of more sexual-looking pictures of me, so if you don’t know who we are and you just look from the surface, you may lean towards that. But I think people who really know us and give us a chance — whether or not you like us or don’t like us — you listen to the diversity of the songs, there’s songs about survival and, you know, rights and power and things that are deep in the spirit. So it’s like, that’s just them looking at the exterior and just all putting these judgments.”

In This Moment’s latest album and first for a major label, Black Widow, arrived this past November.

The disc, the band’s fifth, debuted at Number Eight on the Billboard 200 album chart. It features the singles “Black Widow” and “Big Bad Wolf.”
