IDRIS ELBA RESPONDS TO JAMES BOND RUMORS
Actor Idris Elba made headlines recently when his name came up in connection with the casting for the James Bond franchise.
During an email exchange, Sony head honcho Amy Pascal suggested that Elba should be the next Bond. While some have voiced their opposition to the choice, Elba responded to the backlash viaTwitter. On Saturday, December 27th, the star posted a photo from his car where he was wearing a beanie and sporting a scruffy beard. He captioned the photo, “Isn’t 007 supposed to handsome? . . . Glad you think I’ve got a shot! Happy New year people.”
One of the more vocal people against casting Elba was Rush Limbaugh. The talk radio host said, “Now they are suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland. But that’s not who James Bond is . . . I know it’s racist to probably point this out.”
- Daniel Craig is still under contract to appear in the next Bond film which is due out in 2015.
