HEALTH CAMPAIGNERS: INDUSTRY MAKES $7,000 PER TOBACCO DEATH

The Health Campaign group World Lung Foundation (WLF) said that the tobacco industry makes $7,000 for each of the more than six million people who die every year from smoking related illness.

WLF and the American Cancer Society said in their global Tobacco Atlas that in 2013 (the last year for which figures were available) the tobacco industry made more than $44 billion while 6.3 million people died from smoking related illness.

This is equivalent to a profit of $7,000 per death due to tobacco use.
