Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s new musical will be featured as part of the 2015 season for theatrical companies on both the West and East Coasts.

The show, titled These Paper Bullets!, is described as a “modish rip-off” of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. It centers around a Liverpool rock band making its way through the 1960s music scene. The script was written by Rolin Jones, who has worked on Friday Night Lights and Boardwalk Empire, with Armstrong writing original songs for the piece.

  • The show was originally commissioned by the Yale Repertory Theatre, where it premiered in January 2014.
  • The current version will run this September and October at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, before moving to the Atlantic Theater Company in New York in November.
  • In other news, Green Day got together earlier this month to jam for the first time in a year. The band is reportedly working on a new album.
  • The group will be inducted by Fall Out Boy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 18th at a ceremony in Cleveland, along with Joan Jett, Stevie Ray Vaughan and others.
