‘Creed’ director confirmed for Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ movie
Marvel has confirmed that Ryan Coogler will direct its upcoming Black Panther movie.
Black Panther will be Coogler’s third feature film following 2013’s Fruitvale Station and Creed, the acclaimed Rocky spin-off starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone.
Chadwick Boseman, who played James Brown in the 2014 biopic Get On Up, will star as T’Challa a.k.a. Black Panther in the film, which Marvel will release on February 16, 2018.
“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family,” the film’s producer said in a statement on Marvel.com yesterday. “The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
In the meantime, Boseman will make his debut as T’Challa a.k.a. Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, which opens in theatres May 6.
