BRITISH ROYAL GUARDS NOW BEHIND METAL FENCES
Britain’s iconic Royal Guards, who stand guard outside the country’s royal palaces and are a tourist attraction in their own right, with their ceremonial red uniforms and large black fur hats, have been moved behind metal fences because of fears of a terrorist attack, according to news reports Monday (December 29th).
Not only have the Royal Guards been separated from the public, but armed police are providing additional protection.
The Royal Guards carry weapons with bayonets, but the guns aren’t loaded.
According to the Telegraphnewspaper, the worry is that Islamist militants could see the Royal Guards as high-profile targets.
Britain said last month that it was facing the biggest terrorism threat in its history because of radicalized Britons returning from fighting in Syria and Iraq.
