Bill Gates has topped Forbes‘ annual list of the world’s billionaires again. He has a net worth of $79.2 billion, up from $76 billion last year.


This is Gates’ second year in a row at the top, and 16th time in the last 21 years. In second place was Mexican telecommunications mogul Carlos Slim with $77.1 billion, and Warren Buffett moved up a notch to third place with $72.7 billion. Amancio Ortega, the Spanish co-founder of clothing retail chain Zara was fourth with $64.5 billion, and Oracle founder Larry Ellison came in fifth with $54.3 billion.

Joining the billionaires club for the first time year was basketball great Michael Jordan, his $1 billion net worth due to his ownership in the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and his Nike brand.


The world’s youngest billionaire is 24-year-old Evan Spiegel, CEO and co-founder of Snapchat, with a net worth of $1.5 billion. Snapchat’s other co-founder, 25-year-old Bobby Murphy, has the same net worth.
