Adele holds off Coldplay on UK Charts
Coldplay’s new album, their seventh, ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ has entered the UK album chart at #2 — not enough to topple Adele’s third album ’25’.
All six previous Coldplay albums debuted #1 on the UK album chart, however ‘A Head Full Of Dreams’ still outsold more recent Coldplay releases. The new album sold 236,000 copies in its first week, which makes it the band’s quickest-selling album since 2008’s ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’. Last year’s ‘Ghost Stories’ debuted with sales of 168,000.
Adele’s third-week sales of 354,000 make ’25’ the fastest selling third-week album since Take That’s ‘The Circus’, which sold 382,000 copies three weeks after its release in 2008. Elvis Presley album ‘If I Can Dream’ also reached the six-figure mark this week, selling 105,000 copies at number three.
Coldplay’s “A Head Full Of Dreams” launched on Spotify yesterday (Dec 11), having previously been restricted to other streaming services.
In addition to their world tour, 2016 will also see Coldplay perform live at the Super Bowl half-time show.
